Why Germany

The right exam board and level, not just “learn German”

Every downstream program — Ausbildung, Bachelor’s, Medical PG, Nursing — has a different language requirement. Getting the level or the board wrong wastes months.

Four recognised boards, one right answer

Goethe-Institut, TestDaF, telc and ÖSD are all internationally recognised — the right one depends on your program or visa route.

Matched to your target program

B1 for most Ausbildung visas; B2/C1 for German-taught Bachelor’s; C1 medical German plus FSP for Medical PG; B1→B2 for Nursing.

No prior German needed to start

Placement testing means you never repeat content you already know — and true beginners start confidently at A1.

Cheaper to test in India than Germany

TestDaF costs roughly €110 in India (via Goethe New Delhi) versus around €210 in Germany — test where it costs less, before you travel.

Every level builds toward a real deadline

Regular checkpoints mean your German level is tracked against your target program’s timeline, not an open-ended class.

A skill you keep for life

Beyond the certificate, functional German makes daily life, part-time work and integration dramatically easier from day one.

What the exam itself costs, by board

Goethe-Institut
Premium

the most globally recognised board, accepted for all visa types.

telc / ÖSD
Affordable

strong recognition, particularly for Ausbildung and vocational routes.

TestDaF (India)

vs ~€210 for the same exam in Germany — priced per full exam.

Exact fees vary by exam centre and level — we confirm current pricing before you book. TestDaF is priced per full exam rather than per CEFR level.

Eligibility

Who is this for?

Open to all ages and backgrounds

No prior German required to start at A1; a placement test is available if you already have some German from school or self-study.

Choice of board depends on your goal

Ausbildung leans toward telc or ÖSD; Bachelor’s and academic routes often prefer Goethe or TestDaF; Medical PG requires C1 medical German.

A realistic pace, not a rushed one

Intensive study typically reaches B1 in 6–9 months from zero; part-time takes longer. We set expectations honestly.

Willingness to practice speaking

All four boards test speaking and listening, not just reading and writing — conversation is built in from an early stage.

Your path

Level assessment to certificate, matched to your program

Your German level should always be tracked against your actual target program’s requirement — not an arbitrary personal goal.
