APS certificate for Germany: the one step you should start first
If there's one thing that decides whether you make your intake or slip six months, it's when you start APS. It's the longest lead-time item in the whole process — so it should be the first thing you do, not the last.
What APS actually is
APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) verifies that your academic documents are genuine and meet German standards. It has been mandatory for Indian applicants since November 2022. The fee is ₹18,000 and processing typically takes 6–12 weeks.
New for 2026
- From WS 2026/27, a minimum 70% in Class XII is also required for APS.
- Select Master's fields now need a Digital Master Test (dMAT) ahead of Summer 2027.
Start APS the moment you've shortlisted programs — everything else (uni-assist, visa, blocked account) can run in parallel, but nothing proceeds to final admission without it.
